Don't be shy!

Everyone in the Chorus has different levels of singing and music-reading ability, so there's no need to feel that you aren't "good enough."
Ability to read music is not a requirement!

Our Artistic Director has a knack for gauging a candidate's range and skill.

Join us at the first three rehearsals of the season to see how well you fit for us, and how well we fit for you! Our main goal is to allow our Artistic Director to assess how well you sing in an ensemble situation and where you'd most comfortably fit in musically.

An LIGMC season typically concludes with 3 concerts at the end of the rehearsal period (typically held in December or June). We additionally put on a themed cabaret event in the middle of the season, where we do a small selection of group songs and members may elect to perform a solo (either with accompanist or utilizing a backing track). We may also have some run-out performances, which are announced as early in the season as possible to give as much practice / learning time as is feasible.

Weekly rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm. If the chorus determines an additional rehearsal is needed as we approach the end of the season, a group vote on availability would be held. Members receive a schedule of all rehearsals, performances and other important dates so they know what to expect and can plan their calendars accordingly.

Rehearsal time is valuable as we memorize a great deal of music for each concert. There is time, however, for socializing and taking care of any Chorus business during the break midway through rehearsal. Members are expected to review music outside of rehearsals so you will be fully prepared for performances. To assist with this, our Artistic Director sends recorded tracks of each song by part and accompaniment so you may practice words, pitch, rhythm and audio cues.

Membership in LIGMC requires a certain financial commitment, and we're flexible in making payment arrangements for those in financial need. We do not want money to be a reason someone does not participate in LIGMC. Dues are payable in the first few weeks of rehearsals each season.

Membership dues help defray the costs of operating the Chorus:

Rehearsal space
Purchasing music and maintaining library
Website / Domain management
Advertisement / promotional materials
Deposits for performance spaces / equipment rental
LIGMC shirts
Accompanists

Dues at this time are $50 per member, per season. We also collect a one-time $50 music deposit, which is refundable when you leave the Chorus and return all outstanding materials. Again, payment arrangements can be made so money doesn't prevent you from joining.

While not a direct financial commitment, each member is also expected to provide for the rest of their dress ensemble: black slacks, black shoes, black socks, black belt. Holiday concerts may require a white button-down dress shirt, at the discretion of our Artistic Director. Brand or style is at your selection. This provides the Chorus with a defined, uniform appearance.

Rehearsals are our back-stage time. We're a casual bunch! Dress comfortably and appropriately for the season.

LIGMC provides each member with a logo-embroidered polo shirt. Each member may select the color shirt they prefer. An order is placed a few weeks into the season so any new shirts are procured ahead of the first performance they'll be needed at. Any other LIGMC logo'd shirts are provided by the Chorus, as needed.

Concerts typically entail the LIGMC polo, with the rest provided by you. Black slacks, black shoes, black socks, black belt. Holiday concerts may require a white button-down dress shirt, at the discretion of our Artistic Director. Brand or style is at your selection. If there is a planned deviation from the dress code, it is communicated early so you may plan your wardrobe.

Cabaret events allow for alternative dress if you're performing a solo song. We've had members dress according to their song theme (chef, boy scout, drag), and also in the Chorus polo and black pants/shoes/socks/belt ensemble.
